It is so important to understand the inner-workings of the Supreme Court and the ways in which our judicial system functions in the United States. I honestly enjoyed watching the two videos because while I've always known the basics of our judicial system, it was intriguing to see behind the scenes of our highest court and the officials that deem the rulings, which can easily alter our daily lives (depending on the case).
It is so important to understand what the justices do and how they come to their conclusions, along with the process that occurs to get them to their final stance on a case. I find it so liberating that the main power of the court comes from the public faith. This supports our ideals of democracy and giving the people a voice.
The history within the video was intriguing but also highlighted many of the cases I have previously learned about. What I was most interested in was hearing the justices recount their process in the actual court and then the ways in which they conclude on a case.
With 100 new cases entering the Supreme Court each week there are many factors that go into deliberating the cases that are most prominent and worth the the court's time. The Supreme Court then hears the case in public with the defendant receiving 30 minutes to stand before the justices and give his recount while also answering any questions the 9 of them may ask.
Each justice comes to their own conclusion in private deliberation but must provide reasoning which almost allows ends in compromises between some of the justices. These final decisions are not released until the end of the term.
I cant fathom the anticipation that comes when someone is waiting to hear the ruling of a case that affects them in some way. This video helped to shape a better understanding in my head while also increasing my interest in these rulings.
